The asbestos removal industry is concerned about the rising cost associated with asbestos disposal according to a recent survey carried out by sister company Windsor Waste Management (WWM).

The industry-wide survey carried out in conjunction with ACAD last summer and reported at the end of 2016 looked at the challenges facing the asbestos removal industry and in particular those around training and asbestos waste management.

Participants were asked to rank a series of waste management issues on a scale of 0 to 5 with 0 meaning a low challenge and 5 meaning a high challenge.  Respondents highlighted that the biggest waste challenge facing their asbestos removal business was the rising cost associated with asbestos disposal, with 70% rating it as a significant challenge (i.e. scoring 3 and over).  58% of respondents felt that diversion from landfill was also a significant challenge.

Tony Windsor, Managing Director, ARI Global Technologies says: “With landfill sites continuing to close across the country, asbestos removal companies are going to continue experiencing rising costs of disposal and transport.  The industry has to embrace change and seek an alternative method to landfill. The ever-increasing cost of asbestos disposal has certainly made the option of recycling the material more and more viable and we are currently following up discussions with a number of high profile organisations within the UK and overseas who are keen to pursue this technology.
