Client: Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Engineering Service Center
Waste treated: Asbestos and other media contaminated with PCBs
Project initiated: December 1999
Project completed: April 2002

Project goal: Design, build and test a large-scale modular waste treatment system for destruction of asbestos and PCBs

The US Department of Defense is facing ever increasing hazardous waste treatment and disposal challenges associated with historical Navy activities and older installations. Much of this waste includes large quantities of asbestos and debris contaminated with PCBs. To address this waste, the Navy needed a mobile permitted treatment system capable of being mobilised to various Navy sites to treat hazardous waste.

The Navy issued ARI a three-phase contract to design, fabricate, and test a new mobile system incorporating a scale increase, design improvements and modifications compared to previous available existing systems. ARI successfully completed the contract in April, 2002.
